BODY RESTORE STAGE - *in Progress* Started 11/22/04.
5/1/2006 The body restore, started with cutting out holes and rusted parts. This small area on the Passenger floor was the start.
9/13/2005 You can see by this picture there is a lot to do. Tailgate, bumper, plates on top of the wheel houses, etc. Its all got to come off in order to see what can be salvaged
9/18/2005 After cutting the tailgate off, I can see what I have to work with. Rust has made the metal to thin to work with. Therefore, rear panel, wheel houses, and rear floor will be replaced
10/1/2005 Panels and gas sump removed, now prepare for replacement parts.
10/15/2005 Before I put the tank sump in, I needed to straighten up the floor panel. I used these body hammers (Harbor Freight) to do it right.
10/15/2005 For the panels to fit properly, you have to get the sump in correctly. This task was tough because there was a 12in strip of channel that needed replacing as well. Those who have worked on these jeeps, the more you dig in, the more rust you find.
10/15/2005 Once the sump and channel in, the panels will fit pretty close to intended spots.
11/12/2005 Once I tacked all the Panels and sump in, I got some help and put the tub back on the frame to see that all the holes lined up. Yep, they looked good. So we put the tub back on the Rotisserie and continued with the welding.
11/12/2005 Now its time to attack the weak spots in floor and tub underside channel. This took a while to get this correct, but I found I needed to get it all done.
10/15/2005 As I was tacking in the panels, I wanted to make sure that everything was lining up and properly adjusted.
9/10/2006 The channel on the bottom of the tub had spots where it was rusting out. These spots needed to be replaced. I called Jeep Panel Plus to get the correct pieces for replacement
9/21/2006 Once all the parts, tub, hood, grill, seats, windshield, fenders were inspected, I sent them to the sandblaster. He completed in 2 days and I received all my parts for final inspection
9/21/2006 Before I primered, I placed all the accessories on the panels to make sure everything aligned and looked good.
9/21/2006 As you can see here, I was done patching the bottom channels and pieces of the floor, and sent it out to sandblasting. Once the tub came back, I inspected the whole unit. There were still some pieces of weak metal that I had to replace, but for the most part it looks good. Here I primered the bottom.
9/21/2006 With the weather in Southern California still warm in September, I chose to get the primering completed, and hopefully to a point where I can finish before the cool weather starts. Here I primed most of the blasted parts.
10/21/2006 Finally, I fixed the parts that bugged me on the tub, and reprimered. It was 80 degrees in Southern California this weekend, so it was perfect for painting.
10/21/2006 Looks pretty good. Looking on the inside, looks like everything was covered well.
10/21/2006 Well, it turned out pretty good. There are a couple more touch up spots I will take care of, but, looks pretty good. Time to finish putting the drivetrain together.
