Deep Mud Exhaust RESTORE STAGE - Started in Aug of 2005. Little information makes it hard to complete.
8/1/2005 I found it difficult to get accurate information on the deep mud exhaust system. I called lots of vendors, who had some parts, but not all to replace. My 45 came with the exhaust coming out the side, which was wrong, so I am in search of finding what is correct.
8/1/2005 I called many vendors to see if they had a complete Deep Mud Clamp set. I ordered these from Brent Mullins, it wasn't complete, and I had aquired a couple duplicates as well.
8/1/2005 The first piece missing is what I call a hook holder. It goes holds the end of the muffler to the frame. I fabricated this piece myself as noone seems to have them.
8/1/2005 The clamp around the muffler is very tight, not quite exact, so I had to put the hook holder on first before tightening the muffler clamp.
8/1/2005 I fabricated this piece by looking at a 45 MB picture of an original that was sent to me.
8/15/2005 I attached it to the frame here has it was suppose to. Note, in this picture my hook holder was too long, so I took it apart and reinstalled it
8/15/2005 The next piece is the connection from the back of the muffler to the pipe. The clamp I used here appears to be the correct one from the other original pictures that I reviewed, but is is much thinner material, than originals I have seen.
8/15/2005 The crossmember piece can be connected the same as the last, but I used the additional rubber connector to alieviate vibration.
6/10/2006 The TM diagrams, show very little information, and there are no close up pictures.
6/10/2006 I had a problem, because my bracket connected to the frame had been cut by previous owner. I had to fabricate this section close to what was shown in old army articles.
6/10/2006 After fabricating the bracket close to original, I installed the clamps I had acquired, to the specs that I had researched.
6/10/2006 Another closeup of the midsection bracket and connection with the clamps. This part had me baffled for a couple months.
6/10/2006 The midsection to the flexpipe is pretty simple connection. Use the heavy duty clamp for this connection.
6/10/2006 Another view of the flexpipe clamp.
6/10/2006 Here is the last connection to the exhaust manifold from the flexpipe.
