Electrical Wiring - Started 11/15/06.
9/27/2006 Before I started wiring, I needed to get the firewall installed. I started with Dave's picture of what goes where and then installed.
11/15/2006 I was advised to start with the main switch and move your way back. On late model Jeeps the main switch was moved to a rotary switch. And of course, pictures were scarce. I used this one from a post on the G.
11/15/2006 I then modified the popular main switch for early models, to what I believe is correct. Note, there are many variations, this was a best guess. I will modify it as needed when testing. NOTE: the wiring harness kit does not include circuit breakers, I got them from Napa.
11/15/2006 I needed a Relay switch that goes to the Battery post. In the meantime, I started the wiring on the switch. Note, on 44/45 jeeps the blackout light is on this switch. Earlier models had a separate switch for blackout.
11/15/2006 While waiting for the firewall grommets to arrive, I ran the main harness through the correct firewall hole.
11/15/2006 Looking good so far. Installed and looks good, now I need to get the clips installed on the main harness.
11/15/2006 In addition to the rotary light switch, the Head Light dimmer is also different on the late models. You see the correct one is to the left, a thicker switch that the earlier models

11/22/2006 Connecting the tail lights is pretty simple. Follow the color coded wires and connectors up with the wiring diagram and it is pretty simple. Here you see the lights are connected but not taped.
11/22/2006 The only part that got me thinking was the notches in the tail light connectors. You have to line up the notch to drive the insert into the connector, then line the two notches up with the light connector, push and twist. Once I figured it out, .... piece of cake.
11/22/2006 I taped up the connectors so that wires would stay connected and protected from moisture. I have yet to break out the clips to clip them down.
11/22/2006 I ran the trailer socket down, and need to hook that up yet, but there are two wires so that should be pretty simple. I need to pull the socket out, wire up and then re-install, and put the cover on.
11/22/2006 I installed the junction block and hooked up a couple wires.
11/27/2006 Now, rotating the tub, Installed the clips for the main wiring harness.
12/9/2006 The wiring clips that come with the harness are not close to the original ones. I posted this picture before I found the original clips in a bucket of bolts.
1/14/2007 Well, finally have all the parts in place to finish the main junction box. Just need to install the headlights, Blackout lights and horn. Piece of cake. The diagram above is key to the rotary main switch wiring. It took a while to figure that out. But the jeep start correctly, and gauges work, so it must be correct.
