Installing Felt Grommets - pain at first.
12/9/2006 When you get the felt grommet set and you place them up against the firewall, you think 'How on earth are these going to fit'. With a little work, they actually go in easy. Watch your knuckles though... if you can get through this without shedding blood you did a good job.
12/9/2006 I read some threads about soaking in warm water first, but I found you don't need to do that. The key is starting the grommet in the hold on the center slit. Fit as much as you can with a hand, then continue with a small screwdriver
12/9/2006 Use your screwdriver to push the grommet into a tight circle, then push the back edge into the hole, and it will start to line up with the center slit.
12/9/2006 Once you get it in, use your screwdriver to push the grommet into the center slit all the way around.
12/9/2006 Now the first one is installed without cables coming through... but what if you have cables already installed? Continue on.
12/9/2006 Your going to keep the same technique, I am installing on the speedo cable here. Note: you need to install the speedo grommet like this because the ends would be to big to put through at a later time. While installing, make sure the cable is in the center as you are fitting it around the cable.
12/9/2006 Same technique, you wind up with the same results. If your first one without a cable was difficult, try again without a cable, then comeback to the hole with the cable.
12/9/2006 Here I installed with both the choke and throttle cables installed. As long as I kept the cables in the middle of the grommet, the same technique worked.
12/9/2006 I was able to complete all of them, even the Main harness, which actually was pretty easy because the center hole is larger on the grommet. Good Luck with yours !
